Frequently asked questions

Does TerraGrid need an internet connection?

No. Positioning, coordinate conversion, compass, declination (WMM2025), sun and moon times, and all your waypoints, routes and tracks work fully offline. Only map imagery needs a connection unless you download an offline map region first from Tools → Offline Maps.

Which coordinate formats and datums are supported?

MGRS, UTM, USNG, decimal degrees, degrees-decimal minutes, DMS, GEOREF and Maidenhead. Datums include WGS84, ED50, NAD27, NAD83, OSGB36, Tokyo, Pulkovo 1942 and custom 3/7-parameter transformations. Change them in Settings → Coordinates.

Why does the app ask for location "Always"?

It doesn't need it for normal use. Background location is only used while you are recording a track, so your trail keeps recording with the screen off. A blue indicator shows while this is active.

How do I share waypoints with my team?

Open a folder → Share, or use the QR hand-off in a waypoint's detail view. Sharing goes through your own iCloud; no accounts or servers are involved.

How do I import GPX or KML files?

Open the file from Files, Mail or AirDrop and choose TerraGrid, or use Waypoints → ⋯ → Import.

Is there a subscription?

No. TerraGrid is a one-time purchase with no subscriptions, in-app purchases, or ads.
